Knaresborough Bed Race by Sirastudio, Professional Photographers and Video Production in Harrogate

On the second Saturday in June, 90 teams race ‘beds’ through the streets of Knaresborough. Raising around £100,000 for charities each year, it’s probably the biggest charity event in Yorkshire, and definitely one of the zaniest in the world.

Organised by Knaresborough Lions, the event has been running for 48 years. It is sponsored by local firms and supported far and wide. Around 25,000 people pack into the historic, picturesque town to see the decorated beds in the grounds of Knaresborough Castle before the beds are paraded through the town to Conyngham Hall, where the race starts and finishes. Here, among various attractions, the beds are stripped down to the bare essentials ready for racing round the town and through the river. Running clubs, local companies, schools and other organisations compete to get a prize for the best decorated bed and the fastest time round the course.

For the third year running, SiRAstudio has been commissioned to film the day. We provide live coverage of the ambience, the parade, the race and the river crossing on a 10ft screen in the grounds of Conyngham Hall. We then produce video highlights the same night for YouTube and then extended footage on a DVD, which is sold by Knaresborough Lions.

It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with the people of Knaresborough, the organisers, Stray FM, FTAV and all those involved in the Great Knaresborough Bed Race again,  and we hope to be involved for years to come!
